(I was making omelets to order during our breakfast buffet.)

Customer: Where are the waffles?

Me: We don’t have waffles on the buffet today. We alternate serving waffles, French toast or pancakes, and today we have French toast (indicating where she can find the French toast.)

Customer (voice getting higher pitched and whinier with every exchange): But your menu says you have waffles!

Me: They are on our a la carte menu. If you have your heart set on waffles, you can ask your server and he will have the kitchen make you one.

Customer: Can you make me a waffle?

Me: No, ma’am, I’m sorry, I can’t. I am only set up to make omelets, I don’t have waffle batter or an iron here.
