Unfiltered Story #119556
(I’m working the fitting room when I notice a high-pitched beeping. I don’t recognize it as anything from the store, so I dismiss it. It stops after several minutes. A middle-aged customer trying on shoes nearby turns to me.)
Customer: “Any idea what that was?”
Me: “Not the slightest, ma’am.”
Customer: “Oh, well, probably just a hearing aid or something. You know how old people have hearing aids? Don’t they squeak sometimes?”
(Grinning ear-to-ear, I reach into my right ear and pull out a medium-sized hearing aid of my own.)
Me: “‘Old people,’ ma’am?”
(We both crack up. And, no, my hearing aid wasn’t the issue.)
