Unfiltered Story #116424

(I was working register when an older woman and a man came up to my counter with a bag of hard candy and a small, gaudy American flag decal for a car or window. I rang up both items, put them side-by-side since they were roughly the same size, and put them in a bag. The woman paid and they left.

Later on, I was coming back from the bathroom when I spotted the woman GLARING at me from another register.)

Woman: (to my coworker) THERE she is.

(She then proceeded to storm up to my counter with her bag, the candy and her receipt.)

Woman: WHERE’S my FLAG!?

Me: (taken aback) …I put it and the candy together and put it in the bag.

Woman: (Wildly waves the candy with one hand and the bag with the other) THERE’S NO FLAG!

(I was 100 percent sure I put both in the bag, but I looked around the register in case it had fallen out somehow. Though the woman’s hostility hinted that she suspected I had stolen it instead. Finally after I’ve looked all over she storms off to get a new one. I hoped that would be the end of it, but she was soon back, this time slamming both the new american flag decal and her receipt on my counter.)

Woman: AND you overcharged me!

( I price-checked the decal and she was right. There was a sticker on it for $1.19… and it rang up $1.49.)

(As per corporate, cashiers aren’t allowed to process refunds. Any and all refunds or exchanges have to be done at the customer service desk in the back of the store.)

Me: I’m sorry, we can’t do refunds here. If you go back to (customer service), they can get you your uh… cents back.

Woman: OH MY GOD!!!!!

(She ripped her decal, destroyed plastic bag, battered candy and receipt off my counter and stormed out of the store. I’m still pretty sure the original flag is either in the parking lot or her car. Why she acted like I had any motivation to steal it is beyond me.)
