Unfiltered Story #103614

I’m a pharmacy student in at the doctors for a check up. We did blood work that day, but for some unknown reason I decided to eat breakfast before I left home, which screwed up the lab results.

Older doctor walks into room. *small talk*
Doc: you have diabetes
Me: no, that’s not right. I had breakfast before I left.
Doc: that’s not how that works. Your blood sugar was 180.
Me: I had a full glass of orange juice before I left.
Doc: we’ll check your A1C and have family med call you to set up an appointment.

My A1C was 5.8% (goals for diabetic is less than 7%), and family medicine never called me.
