Expensive Rings Are Non-cents

(My girlfriend and I are just lying in the bed on a lazy day. We have been together for several months already. We had known each other since October 1987. It is now the summer of 1988.)

Girlfriend: *completely out of the blue* “We seem to be getting along pretty good. Maybe we should get married.”

Me: *short pause* “Well, if you are proposing, then I accept.”

(The next day, we go to a jewellery shop at a local mall and purchase each other rings, only about $100 value each, as we were still university students on a budget. We finally get married in 1991 and have already passed the two decade mark. As for the rings, they come out every so often as accessories.)
