A Hair’s Breadth Away From Total Embarrassment

(I am a 15-year-old girl attending a summer program at a local church. It’s basically just an excuse to joke around with my best friend, who attended the same Christian school as me two years prior. I recently cut my hair really short, donating over 18 inches to charity, and wanted to surprise my friend by how much hair was gone.)

Friend: *sees me, grins, and sits next to me* “Hey!”

Me: “Hey, what’s up?”

Friend: “Haha, nothing. I love your hair. It’s cute!”

Me: “Thanks!”

(Everything is going normal, or so I thought, until she realizes something shocking.)

Friend: “Oh my gosh! [My Name]! That’s you with your haircut!”

Me: “Um, yeah, it’s me. Who did you think I was?”

Friend: “A boy!”

Me: “What?! Haha, really?”

Friend: “A cute boy…”
