A Logical Assumption

(We are a class of 20 students, in an academically demanding program. We are currently discussing some of the physiological things that take place in the body to either increase or decrease the heart rate.)
Instructor: “I can raise and lower my heart rate at will. Nothing major, so I can’t make myself pass out, but I can change it by about 10 beats per minute.”
Student: “Are you part Vulcan?!”
Class: *erupts into laughter*
Instructor: “No, but I had to learn how to control it as a kid, because I would pass out after exercising.”
(The Vulcan comment got tossed around quite a bit after that.)
