It’s A Mistake To Ignore The Mistake

| Working | July 18, 2013

(I’m the type of person who will tell anyone off if they make a big mistake, whether a manager or a coworker. One day I notice a huge mistake in the computer system that, after investigating, is the fault of the sales manager.)

Me: “Ugh I can’t believe this! The stupid sales manager just messed up this huge group order. She didn’t even put it in. Now how are we supposed to work on it?”

Coworker: “Better be careful. She’s the boss’s wife.”

Me: “I don’t care! Now, we’re going to get slammed with angry phone calls from customers wondering where their products are. I’ll just write her an email telling her off. This is the fifth time she’s messed up; it’s pathetic.”

Coworker: “No! Don’t!”

Me: “Why not? It’s not fair that we have to do extra work because of her laziness.”

Coworker: “She’s the boss’s wife!”

Me: “So?”

Coworker: “So, you’ll get fired! Who do you think the boss will get mad at, you or her?”

Me: “I don’t care; this is too huge a mistake to just let this go.”

(I write an angry email to her about her mistake, and my coworker reaches across and deletes it.)

Coworker: “This is for your own good!”

(I’m so angry, I risk writing another and send it to her and the boss. My boss actually doesn’t fire me, and is impressed that I had guts. He makes the sales manager apologize. She never made another mistake again! After five years, I couldn’t be happier working there!)
