Starting To Sweat The Sweater
(Being somewhat thrifty, I tend to buy a lot of my clothes second-hand. On this particular day, I’m wearing a second-hand sweater that I think looks quite nice on me.)
Friend: “Ooh! My mother had a sweater just like that one, only a different colour!”
Me: “Oh?”
Friend: “Yes! She’s dead now – she died last year at the age of 80 – but I still have that sweater. Would you like to have it?
Me: “Um … no, that’s okay. Thanks, though.”
(I know she only meant to be nice, but somehow the idea of wearing a deceased octogenarian’s clothes didn’t appeal to me much.)
