What A Wonderfully Weird World

| Learning | January 3, 2017

(My friends and I have traveled all over the world. We collectively have traveled to over 40 countries for various reasons. Over lunch, we’re discussing things we have learned from each country.)

Friend #1: “I learned prostitution was legal in both Canada and Austria.”

Friend #2: “Yeah, but in Canada it’s still illegal to buy prostitution services. In Mexico, there’s literally only ONE gun shop. Most other firearms are smuggled from the U.S.”

Friend #3: “Finland made Internet access a legal right.”

Friend #4: “In Sweden, you can’t name your kid ‘Ikea’ or ‘Elvis.’ ”

Me: “I think I top you all: In Russia, soldiers will sing the Spongebob Squarepants theme as they march.”

Friend #2: “No way!”

Friend #4: “Give proof!”

(Our history teacher then walked over and pulled out his phone. We proceeded to surf YouTube for the rest of lunch watching Russian soldiers sing “Spongebob Squarepants” as they marched.)
