Unable To Keep Things Civil (War)

(I’m in an advanced history class in the ninth grade and the entire class takes a written test to see if any of us qualify for college level US history course for the following year.)
Me: “How did you do?”
Student: “I don’t know… Who was the Civil War fought between?”
Me: “Are you serious? You’re from Georgia, right?”
Student: “Yeah, what’s that got to do with anything? Was it us and France?”
Me: “No… the Civil War was fought between us and the North. The War Between the States?”
Student: “Oh… I wrote about France.”
(Strangely enough, she did make it into the class!)
