Leave You In A Bad German State
(I’m in fifth grade and we’ve just had our first ever geography lesson where we had to learn the names of all 16 German states. My school is international and bilingual but in this case we are allowed to write most of them in only German since not all of them actually have a different English name. While I’m from Berlin my father is from Bavaria.)
Me: “[Teacher], what’s the English name for Bayern?”
Teacher: “Bavaria.”
Me: “So on the test are we supposed to write Bayern or Bavaria?”
Teacher: “Either’s fine.”
(Fast forward to the test. I write Bavaria. A while later we get the test back. She marked ‘Bavaria’ wrong and also added a note that I’d forgotten one of the 16 states: Bayern.)
