(We’re discussing the new curriculum for seventh grade English.)

Teacher: “I wish they’d let us teach Shakespeare or Dickens.”

Student #1: “Oh, I’d love to read about Shakespeare.”

Student #2: “Me, too. What’s the book he’s in called, again?”

Teacher: “What do you mean?”

Me: “You do realize Shakespeare wasn’t fictional, right?”

Student #1: “Yes, he is!”

Me: “He’s an author. He wrote Romeo and Juliet?”

Student #2: “Yeah! That’s the book he was in!”

Teacher: *sighs* “I guess I know why it’s not on the curriculum…”
