If You Don’t Like Homework, Try Working To Pay For A Home

(I am a new teacher in this school so the kids are constantly testing my limits. I have just given them their homework for the week.)
Student #1: “Ma’am! I don’t want to do this homework! It’s unfair! It’s too much work and we have got better things to do at home!”
Me: “Look, I don’t like to mark your tests either, but it’s my job. And yours is to do your homework.”
Student #2: “It’s not fair! At least you got paid for your job!”
Me: “Well, how would you like to pay bills?”
(They all stayed silent after that.)
