Unfiltered Story #32757

Unfiltered | June 26, 2017

(I am a resident assistant at a college and part of my job is filling out roommate agreements with my residents so we can refer to them if an issue comes up during the year. I have just sent out a mass email to my residents reminding them to sign up for a time to finish their roommate contracts. The rest of this conversation takes place over email over the course of several days.)

Resident: “My roommate is always really busy so I don’t know when we would be able to fill out our roommate agreement.”

Me: “Okay, what is your room number and your roommate’s name?”

Resident: *gives information*

(I start a new email chain with just him and his roommate. Note it’s kind of urgent because I have been reminding residents to do this for over a month and a half and they’re already past due at this point; I get in trouble if I don’t finish them.)

Me: “I am available on Saturday or Sunday after 5p or Monday after 12. Let me know what works for you.”

Resident: “I am out of town and will be until Sunday.”

Me: “Okay, are you available on Monday?”

Resident: “I have class then.”

Me: “All day?”

Resident: “I’m free at 3:30 on Tuesday.”

Me: “I’m meeting with another room at that time.”

Resident: “Unfortunately that is the only time I am free.”

(I just found it a very frustrating process, considering he was the one who contacted me in the first place. Also, how hard is it to spare 10 minutes to walk down the hallway?)
