An Alarming Lack Of Attention

(I’m out with a friend of mine. We just finished a round of mini-golf and are heading downstairs. I’m behind him and he reaches the bottom first. There’s an exit to the left but for emergencies only. It has a big red stop sign on it that reads “EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY. ALARM WILL SOUND.)

Friend:  *heading toward left exit* “What do you want to do after this?”

Me: *yelling over music* “No. No, no, NO, NO, NOOOO!”

(My friend pushes the emergency exit door, and then looks confused by the blaring alarm. He finally sees the sign.)

Me: “I tried to warn you…”

Worker: “Don’t worry. sir. CHILDREN do it all the time.”

Friend: “I didn’t know it was for emergencies.”

Me: “There was a sign on the door…”

Friend: “Oh…”
